Naimiṣāraṇya

To the south of this see one stream, the very pure Gomati River. Beside it is Naimisaranya. At the beginning of Kali-yuga, the rsis headed by Saunaka heard about Gauranga from the mouth of Suta. Whoever reads the Purānas here during the month of Kartika becomes free from all distress, becomes absorbed in the pastimes of Gauranga, and easily attains Vṛndāvana.
(Sri Navadvipa-Dhama-Mahatmya, Chapter 9)

In the Garga-samhita, Naimikṣetra in Madhyadvipa (where the Gomati River flows) is glorified as follows: “Whoever takes the pure dust from the bank of the Gomati River is liberated from the sins committed in a thousand lifetimes. Of this there is no doubt. O King of Videha, if a person bathes at Prayāga in the month of Magha when the sun is situated in Capricorn, he gains the result of a thousand horse sacrifices. But if the person bathes in the Gomati River in the month of Magha when the sun is in Capricorn, he gets a thousand times that benefit. Even Lord Brahma is not able to properly glorify Gomati-tirtha.
Whoever bathes in Cakra-tirtha (in Naimiṣāranya) on the twelfth lunar day attains the abode of Visnu, even if he has committed the worst sins.”
(Sri Navadvipa-Dhama-Mahatmya, Pramana-Khanda, Chapter 3)

Sūta Gosvāmī, speaking Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam before the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya, headed by Śaunaka Ṛṣi, gave his verdict in this connection as follows.
“Great sages, please understand that the transcendental pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa are all eternal. They are not ordinary narrations of historical incidences. Such narrations are identical with the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself. Anyone, therefore, who hears such narrations of the Lord’s pastimes becomes immediately freed from the contamination of material existence. And those who are pure devotees enjoy these narrations as nectar entering into their ears.” Such narrations were described by Śukadeva Gosvāmī, the exalted son of Vyāsadeva, and anyone who hears them, as well as anyone who describes them for the hearing of others, becomes Kṛṣṇa conscious. And it is only the Kṛṣṇa conscious persons who become eligible for going back home, back to Godhead.
(Krsna Book – Chapter 84)

The importance of discussing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the society of pure devotees was explained by Śaunaka Muni during the meeting at Naimiṣāraṇya, in the presence of Sūta Gosvāmī. Sūta Gosvāmī confirmed that if someone is fortunate enough to associate with a pure devotee of the Lord even for a moment, that particular moment is so valuable that even those pious activities which can promote one to the heavenly planets or give liberation from material miseries cannot compare to it. In other words, those who are attached to Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam do not care for any kind of benefit derived from elevation to the higher planetary kingdoms, or for the liberation which is conceived of by the impersonalists. As such, the association of pure devotees is so transcendentally valuable that no kind of material happiness can compare to it.
